Badges for Gold?

With Cataclysm coming out they are exchanging some of our old badges for gold.  I am forever hearing people complain about not being able to afford epic flight and it honestly annoys the crap out of me.  Someone in my guild recently said he could not afford epic flight.  I asked him what his skills where, he said mining and jewel crafting.  I said then go mining.  After you are done, mine some more.  4 days later he now has epic flight.

The thing is he just did not know better.  He was taught and he did what was needed to be done.  He is the exception, not the rule.  Most people are just to damn lazy.  I can not tell you the amount of people I have handed out advice to on how to get their epic flying and yet they still do not have it because they are not willing to put in the effort.

Now, roughly half of those people can get epic flying easily.  Why do I say half?  Because half of those lazy people are only lazy when it come to making money.  They are not lazy when it comes to raiding and doing dungeons and the such.  For those people there is a number you need to know about.

910

That is the exact number of badges of triumph/frost that will translate into 5005 gold if you trade them down to Conquests.  Otherwise known as epic flying.

For many of those people that will not put in the effort to make any gold because they either do not want to or do not understand how to this can be a god send.  Some of those people, one friend of mine I have in mind, have 1000s of badges they have nothing to do with.  I've told them to turn them into gems and sell the gems for cash but they refused to even do that for some unknown reason.

This effectively makes life easier for them if they are willing to do one thing.  Trade all those down to Conquest.  Now these are the same people that do not want to trade down to get gems so not sure if I can convince them to trade down to conquest but that is free money.

I think keeping the triumph/frost badges and having them turned into justice points will be useless for a few reasons.  One being we will still be getting more justice points as we run dungeons anyway and another being that all justice points will be able to buy is starter 85 gear (NOT the tier 11), you know the stuff we can get crafted or dropped from dungeons.  So it is not like they will get you anything special.  With that in mind, the gold becomes much more attractive then the gear you could get.

For many of the people that have those 1000s of badges stocked up there is nothing to buy.  I've been using mine to get saronites to sell or craft gear for my fresh 80s.  I even stopped running randoms on my main ages ago because I do not need frosts any more.  I do not run ICC 25 any more or even try to get into VoA 10 and 25 any more.  I might join if I am on and invited, but I no longer make an effort to join.  If I had kept doing them and had kept doing my randoms and did not buy upwards of 40 saronites I would easily have 2000 emblems of frost left over.  Thing is, my friends, the ones I mentioned with 1000s of badges did not stop doing things like I did, that is why they have 1000s.

So now for those that are raid-a-holics that were never able to make gold, it has finally paid off.  You can get your epic flying and your 310 flying should you need it because you raided.

I mentioned that is 1/2 the people.  What about the other half?  Well, the other half that are to lazy to make gold are also to lazy to run content.  Those are usually the ones complaining how hard it is to get gear in the same breath that it is too hard to get gold.  If you can't run one heroic a day and make at least 1 raid night a week then you are not really into getting gear and with that lack of commitment you are also not really into getting money.

For those people I only have one thing to say.  You do not deserve epic flying.  You are the last step of the casual player.  So casual that even casual players look hard core compared to you.  Lets just hope that Blizzard never gets so far down to catering to you as well. Get off your butt or stop complaining.  Blizzard just gave the ultimate gift to people that do not like the make their own gold and you made a choice not to pick up your gift.  Deal with it.

PTR 4.0.1

I finally finished downloading the PTR.  16 gig is a big file to download and it took me longer then it should have because my computer is stupid.  The other night I started to download it after I went to bed figuring that downloading while I was sleeping made the most sense.

I tired to download it while I was online but it drew so much from my computer that it turned my normally under 100 latency (usually 60) into 2000+ nearly all the time.  How people play like that is beyond me.  If my latency gets over 100 I usually find the game unplayable.  Either way, my computer decided that it needed to update and reboot itself so of course that stopped the download because when it restarted of course it did not restart the download.

So last night I started it again when I headed off and finished it.  I went on this morning before I left for work and selected to transfer my Hunter so I can test it out with the new focus mechanic.  It will be four days.  I did have a taste of the game however yesterday.  Even though my computer decided to reboot itself it had downloaded enough to let me start a new character.

So that is exactly what I did.  Of course I made a Hunter.  What else would a self respecting Hunter make as their first character on a new server?  This would be my 5th time with a new Hunter and my first time on the PTR.  Personally I ignore the PTRs because I can just wait and see the changes.  This time however I wanted to get in and look around because of the huge talent tree changes and the change to focus make for two huge new things that I did not want to have to try and figure out how to use my Hunter after it was released.

Talent changes I do not have to test.  I can check sites to see what the theory crafters have figured will be best.  New items I will find on my own when the time comes.  Anything else I can wait to experience but a complete change in resources meant I needed to learn how to handle it before it was implemented as it would totally change how I play my character.

My first thoughts on focus were I did not like it   That was back when it was announced.  After testing it so far not much has been done to change my mind.  Focus, so far for my newbie Hunter, seems to be a non issue as everything dies so darn fast at the starting levels and nothing is red to attack me if I attack something else in the aggro range.  This of course makes things a lot easier.  No chances to get caught with no focus.

I start off with the machine gun arcane shot going.  Bang, bang, bang out of focus but dead creature.  Even if it was not an issue I tried to simulate what I might do later on and did only the bang bang then steady to start regaining focus faster.  My idea was, even if things where dying quick, I wanted to end each little fight with at the very least 75% of of focus to try and simulate what might be a continuous battle with forces coming constantly .  It seemed to work well.  Again I must stress however that this is not an ideal testing area being there are no red beasts.

It seems that the Hunter does roughly the same type of damage they always did, maybe a little more with the arcane machine gun to start.  Add to that the fact we start with a pet and Hunters seem to be OP at the start.  They have their normal ability to kill easily in that first 10 levels that all characters seem to have but they also have their pet already which means even more damage.  As it stands, if everyone twinked out level 1s then Hunters would be the king of the jungle because they start with bonus damage.

You have no control over your pet what so ever.  You will learn to control your pet at level 10, the same time you used to learn how to get a pet.  Makes sense to me.  The pet also seems to have a very short leash so to speak.  If you get even slightly out of range it despawns.  I had to resummon my pet twice while playing and I did not play all that long.

I made it to level 5 and went to the first city outside of the starting area.  Looking at my trainer I can see all the spells up to 85 are listed already.  Looking in my book I can see that Archeology listed already as well.  Of course these things are just place holders but they do leave us with a small hint as to when Cataclysm will be released.  It will be released shortly after the PTR is.  They would not have all the Cataclysm stuff in there like that if they intended for us to be waiting for a while still.

As for small mechanics.

I love the new level up graphics and click link.  I know it is small, unless and does not effect game play in any way but I like it.  It feels more like you are leveling.

I like that the skill list tells you when you need to go back to the trainer to train something.  While I know better now I remember first playing and every time I leveled making sure to go to a trainer to train and then being upset when there was nothing to learn.  This way you never have to worry about that.  It tells you, you can now learn Steady Shot, visit your trainer.

I am not sure if this is a change to the starting area or a change over all in the game or just something for the PTR but drop rates on everything are 100%.  If you kill what drops what you need you are assured it will have it.  I've leveled enough hunters in the starting area to know that even in the starting area the drop rates sometimes sucked.  This will make leveling easier for new players.  I do hope they adjusted experience some however.  If you have to kill 30 things to get 5 drops, while annoying, you did get you a crap load of experience.  Now you only need to kill 5 things to get 5 drops.  That means you are losing out on 25 kills worth of experience.  Add that up over the course of the game and the 300+ quests you might do where you have to get drops while leveling and you are talking about 7500+ worth of kills you will no longer need so that is 7500+ kills worth of experience you will now never get.  I guess that just means you will be skipping a lot fewer quests as you will need to do them if experience gains where not adjusted.

So until I get to a higher level, or get my Hunter copied (4 days they said) there is not much more I can comment on.  Over all I like the visual changes.  I do think the spellbook is freaking huge and really needs to be made smaller or at least have a resize option and the jury is still out on focus.

8/12 in ICC 25 now.

Before I go into my, what turns into a, grumpy elf type post I want to go over my analysis from last night. A few posts back I posted about Playing "Good" DPS and wanted to see how I went based on my own assessment of what you should look for.

In DPS, and that never matters, I was number 4 over all.  In total damage done I was number 2 over all.  Right off the bat that is not bad for running with a group where 17 of the 25 players where kingslayers. The other things I look for, as I mentioned were important, like damage taken I was number 18.  15-25 were all within 0.2% of each other.  The damage I took was all from non avoidable things such as pungent blight and lay waste.  That is fantastic as I see it.  Tops on DPS, bottom on damage taken.  That is how you are supposed to do your job when you are DPS.

My DoT uptime was not perfect because I do not often use serpent sting if it is AoE trash unless there is a target we are going to focus down, then I will sting it.  I was middle of the pack with interrupts. My Activity was #2 which is great really.  The only one that should be above me is the tank and in this case possibly 3 tanks.  So being #2 was perfect.  It would also explain why I was number 2 in over all damage behind the one beast that we had going on AoE battles.  I think it should be noted that the person that was #1 in over all damage was never even near the top in single target on any of the fights.

Breaking down fights, even more so the ones where Hunters excel I did exactly what my job was to do.  I toasted everyone.  In some cases by as much as 2K DPS.  I love the dogs.  I could zone out thinking about other things and still end up doing at least 12K on them in 10 man, so a full 25 man raid is no problem for leading in DPS there.  Some fights, like rot and fester I got no love by getting the disease 4 times and getting vile gas 5 times and I still managed top 3 DPS on those fights.

Over all, if I look at my own rules for playing good DPS I think I did about 90-92% good DPS play last night.  I could do more damage I think but over all I did well.  Now to move on to Mr. Grumpiness.

After not seeing much progress in ages this is the second time in less then a week I got down some bosses that I had never gotten down before.  I went 10/12 in a complete PuG in 10 man the other day and joined a guild run from a friends guild for a 25 last night being I had not run 25s in what seems like 3 or 4 months.

We one shot our way through the first 8 bosses in a bit less then 2 hours.  That has to be a speed record for me as well in a 25 man.  Usually 6 takes 2 hours even without wipes.  I was invited back to continue with them on Thursday but I run with my guild on Thursday.  Seeing this group they will probably down (or at least get to) the king on Thursday.  Would love to be able to unlock heroics on 25 mans.  That would be a great way to recruit new players for the guild.  Having the ability to do heroics at this point is an attraction.

One thing I am noticing however after running with these 2 groups recently is that both of them really had no need for a raid leader at all.  Once in a while, in both, the raid leader might say something but over all everyone knew what to do on their own.  Even the people that had never done it before.  In both cases there were people that had never done it before as seen from achievements popping up.

I am starting to think we need to raise the standard of our recruiting.  Not to sound elitist or anything being I really hate that attitude but having people I need to try and explain everything too every single step of the way is not only annoying but unneeded.  Every single boss we go to should be a case of, "any question?" okay go.  There are more then enough videos out there, there are more then enough guides out there and there has been a ton of time for someone to experience this content.  There is no reason there should ever be a long winded explanation for anything any more.  Just a simple question here or there.  Like my questions were last night.  "Anything different in 25?" "Adds come from all four doors instead of just two, everything else is the same."  There you go, that is all that needs to be said.  If I needed more then that to be capable of doing my job correctly then that would mean I suck.

I always say I do not care about gear but about skill and that is true but I have not been doing my job well enough trying to pretend to be a raid leader.  I am not working on evaluating skill.  I think that is more a process of not having enough people show up to raid then me having the choice to choose more skilled players over the less skilled ones.  I am usually stuck in the position of taking whoever shows up.  Like having a 4200 gear score healer that never once stepped into ICC try to heal dreamwalker.  It was not like I had a choice.

If I could just get the skilled players we have to show up, which we have more then enough of, or recruit a few more skilled players to join us, we would be downing ICC 10 heroics every week and trying to complete it on heroic instead of still going for our first king kill on standard.

I think there are various reasons for the issues.  First and foremost, while I think I can lead a raid if need be I am not a recruiter or even a people person for that matter.  The skilled players are sick of trying and failing so they do not make the effort to show any more.  Then with Cataclysm coming out some are just taking some time off.  There is also the point that some of the really skilled players we have would rather join a PuG that goes 10/12 in 2 hours instead of ours that might go 7/12 in 3 and then have a near impossible time of getting enough people to continue later.

I wish I could put my finger on where we fail sometimes but it is just mechanics I think.  Our group has better DPS then any of the groups I join.  We have tanks that do not lose aggro and healers that can keep people up but we just do not get the job done and it is annoying for everyone involved.  Sometimes I just wish everyone would wake up for one night and do the best they can do.  If that were the case we have the people and the skill to go 10/12 in one 2 hour night.  Then getting people to show up to continue would be easy with the end that close in sight.

Either way I am having a touch of fun lately again which was absent for a while.  Playing my Priest in ICC means it is not like doing the same thing over and over for me.  It is keeping it fresh and more enjoyable.  Having my Hunter join in on some PuGs has also been a huge plus for me lately.  It gives me a chance to play my main again which I have been lacking lately.

Tonight is weekly night and it is XT.  I am thinking of running some alts and new players through for badges and then trying to get the best players together to blow through some hard mode stuff.  Lets just hope that the people that are capable of blowing through the hard mode stuff show up and are willing to do it.  Otherwise, it is another lost night.

That is what bugs me the most, the same people that do not show because they are tried of doing the same things are the ones that "if they all showed" we would be well past having to do the same thing over and over.  Double edged sword anyone?

Preparing for Cataclysm

Preparing for Cataclysm Checklist.

1) Gold:
- You will be making a lot of gold from leveling but you will surely want extra on hand for little surprises that might pop up.  I suggest 5K per level 80 that you plan to level to 85.

2) Achievements:
-ZG is going to be gone, get the achievement now.  Rep from the tribe "might" be gone as well, we still do not know but you should seek it out now.
-Rumor has it that Argent Dawn rep will not be as easy to grind as it is now and it will be needed for the faction mount from guild specials.  Get that rep up now.
-Ruins of AQ is being changed from a 20 man raid to a 10 man raid.  The achievement for that might change as well.  Get it now while you can.
-Glory of the Hero.  While I have not heard or seen anything about this anywhere I am lead to believe that the red drake you get from it will be gone even if the achievement is not based on past changes.

3) Rare Items:
- The Baron's mount will be gone so if you feel like running for it, do it now.
- If you are a set whore then make sure to get your tier sets now.  Many, if not all, old tier sets will be no longer attainable.

4) Stockpiles:
-The Good:  Mid level things like goldthorn, heavy leather, etc will most likely skyrocket in price for a while shortly after release as people are leveling their new worgen and goblin alts and need to power level skills.
-The Bad: The days of frozen orbs selling for 30g and cardinal rubies selling for 120g will be long gone.
-The Ugly: For hoarders like me it is really time to clean house.  Get rid of current end game stuff and maybe pick up some earlier stuff.

5) Professions:
- Get them maxed out now, or at least close.  If the past shows us anything you will want to be able to level them fast and it is better then trying to play catch up.  The first people with the maxed professions can be instant millionaires so to speak.
- Stockpile items now.  Many professions have things you can make that are still red.  This means you can easily get to 460 or maybe even 475 right off the bat.  It will really be to your advantage to do so.

6) Learn to play without Addons:
- You are going to be questing, not raiding, so while addons are nice they are really not required.  So prepare to use only your main skills for a while as the mod makers update their programs to work on Cataclysm.  Be prepared to wait as long as a week for some and longer on others.
- Be willing to accept that some addons you have used for the last year or longer will never be updated.

7) Check up on your Class:
- While it might only take you 15-20 minutes to get a hang of the chances it might be harder for some.  Knowing what to expect will really help.
- For classes, like my Hunter, that are going to be completely different, this becomes more important.  Be willing to accept that nothing you remember is the same any more.

8) Getting ready to quest:
-  Some people love it and others hate it but you will need to quest.  Prepare ahead of time.  Stack up on consumables you know you might need ahead of time as the prices might be a bit high to begin with from people looking to get them at the last minute just as they head out to quest.
- If you have the ability to make gold, make it now and buy your epic flying.  Yes, there are still people that do not have it and they need it.  Epic flying makes questing a whole lot faster.  Even people that like to quest like faster questing.
- Clean out your bags.  Remember what it was like when you where questing?  Bags get full very fast.  All those "toys" you have been carrying around being you really did not need a lot of space will be taking up valuable space you are going to need. Bank them, sell them, ditch them, just clean up your bags.
- If you have a gathering profession and ditched your gathering bag like many do when they hit 80 and do not gather as much then go out and get one again.  You will be gathering a lot again.  Having that extra space that sorts itself is going to come in handy.  You can ditch it again once you reach level 85 if you want to.

9) Getting ready to group:
- Be prepared to not steamroll content like you have become used to.
- Find all the zone in area's for all dungeons ASAP. You can no longer get into a dungeon unless you have actually found it.
- Be ready to check your ego at the door.  You might have been the ideal of epic leetness back in WotLK but you are just a noob like everyone else now while learning new content that is supposed to be harder.
- Remember your role.  Everyone wants to level to 85 as fast as possible but pulling extra packs for the tank could cause a wipe which will actually end up wasting more time then if you did it in 2 smaller pulls.  If it is not your job to pull, don't.  You will reach 85 a lot faster if you play your role.
- Same for healers DPSing in heroics.  Don't.  This is new content for everyone.  Just make sure everyone stays alive.  That is all that matters.

10) Things NOT to do:
- Do not buy dual spec unless it is absolutely required.  The price is being lowered from 1000 gold to 100 gold.  Buying it when you do not really need it is a stupid waste of gold.
- Do not give up on current content just because the gear will be easily replaced soon.  You did not pass on the roll for an item you needed in ICC 10 because you knew there was something better in ICC 25 so why would you not get the ICC 25 gear if you know it will be replaced by a level 83 green?
- Do not forget to have fun.  There is still a fair, albeit small, amount of time that you can enjoy WotLK for what it offers so enjoy it while it is still the end game.

There is only a limited amount of time left to get what you wanted to get done in this expansion so as Nike would say, just do it.

Don't Panic: Raid Mechanics

One of the guild officers asked on vent yesterday, after I told him about the pug I was in going 10/12, why we can't do that on a weekly basis.  I explained that we have more DPS then the raid I was in did, we have quality tanks just the same and healing that can rock it as well.  It was one simple thing we are missing that they had.  Good reaction to mechanics.

It might be because it was a pug that people just seemed more relaxed.  A few had never done the fights as evident by all the achievements that popped up but they all responded perfectly (or near perfectly) to things that needed to be done.  Maybe it was because a pug, even more so on my crappy server, is not supposed to get past 6/12 and everyone was relaxed as they were not expected to succeed.

They did not panic.  They followed what I try to call rule one in all raid cases.  Don't Panic.  Just pay attention and do what you need to do.  There are enough warnings for everything that happens in the raid normally.  Deadly boss mods just gives even more.  No need to run all over worried.  When the time comes to do something you just calmly do it and all will work out well.

When people start worrying about what they need to do they start to rush it and that is where mistakes come from.  They Panic.  Another thing I seem to notice is hero syndrome which is a direct result of someone panicking.  They see someone not doing what they are supposed to be doing the instant that they should do it and they try to compensate for it.

What happens in that situation is that the person that was supposed to do something sees a change to the playing field and now has to adjust on the fly which can cause problems.  If the person did not try to play the hero and compensate for someone not doing something and waited the 1 second needed for that person to react then everything might have been fine.  But they wanted to be the hero.  Being the hero because you panicked that someone would not do their job makes them not do their job.  If you just did your own job and let them do theirs everything would be fine.

This is the common pitfall that good players seem to fall into when mixed with average or learning players.  They try to compensate for them being they think they do not know what they are doing.  They Panic and while their heart is in the right place their mind just really isn't.  Not to mention, a new player is never going to learn if you keep saving their ass.  The best way for a DPS to learn to get out of the fire is to let them die in the fire.  If you always heal them through it they will think it is no big deal because they can get healed through it.

Nearly everything in the game gives you a small reaction time to work with.  Even the most extreme cases you will usually have three seconds to react.  Don't Panic.  Some people react preemptively, I know I do on fights I have done so often I know exactly when things are going to happen, so they are ready for what is about to happen.  Others wait and react.  The more you play with people the more you will notice how each person reacts.

Don't Panic.  Let people do what they need to do and you continue to do what you need to do.  Having good raid awareness is a good thing.  Being willing to jump in and fill in for someone else is a good thing.  Jumping in and filling in for them before it is needed because you panicked thinking they would screw up is a bad thing.

Don't Panic.  You do what is expected of you and let everyone else do what is expected of them.  If there is a failure somewhere the raid leader or co raid leader(s) will be the ones that yell out for Bob to help Mark out some.  Remember, if Bob was supposed to be helping Mark from the get go then who would be doing the job Bob was assigned to?  Don't Panic, just do what YOU are capable of doing and let others do what they are capable of doing.

Those that can not do what they are supposed to be doing will be found out and not invited back to the raid until they step up their game.  Bob trying to cover for that person makes it harder to notice who messed it up because now Bob is not doing what he was supposed to be doing either.  Even if Bob is one of the best players in the game because he panicked now he and Mark will not be invited to the next raid.

Don't Panic.  If Mark is going to fail at what he was supposed to do, let him fail.
Don't Panic.  One person dying might not cause a wipe, you dying while trying to help him could.
Don't Panic.  Just relax and follow the mechanics.  Remember, you have 3 seconds usually.
Don't Panic.  Raid mechanics can be learned even for a first timer if you let them.
Don't Panic.  The skill is there as long as you do not sweat the small stuff to often.

UI Jealousy or How do you get away with so few things?

Jealousy - jealous resentment against a rival, a person enjoying success or advantage, etc., or against another's success or advantage itself.
Leveling all the classes I have noticed a few things.  Some have lots of stuff they can do while some have very little they need to do.  Many have redundant thing that give you choices but sooner or later a few of those choices will never get used again.

I do not begrudge anyone their success but I am jealous of advantages that some might have just from the selection of things they have to use.  On all of my characters I do not come even close to even half the amount of things I have to use with my Hunter.  Sure, many of my Hunter things are not even keybound as they are rare use things that I just click and it is a waste to keybind them but even if I were to add all the rare use things on any of my other character I would never come close to the amount of things I need to worry about as a Hunter.

I can really see more and more why Hunters get the tag of Huntard because to do them correctly there is a lot that goes into it.  Sure, most get labeled Huntards because they are plain out stupid not using misdirect or feign death.  That is the number one Huntard marker and trust me as I have been playing my Priest I can tell you that 90% of all Hunters I run into with the LFD system are indeed Huntards.

But that is off the subject really.  This is about the UI.  I was looking over peoples UIs and looking at how clean they were.  Not much of anything to worry about, everything was keybound, laid out in a simple and very little space.  I have tried and I just can not do that.  My UI is a living mess on my Hunter.  On my other characters it is nice but on my Hunter it is crazy.  There is just so much I have to keep track of and need at my disposal.

I am jealous of all those people that have nearly no buttons to worry about.  I think to myself about clicking.  A Mage could be a clicker, there is not much that really needs to be done.  A Paladin, the same.  A healer with healbot basically has to be a clicker.  Many classes could be a clicker and it will never hinder their game performance.  A Hunter that is a clicker will be noticed instantly because it is a lot harder to maximize your DPS when you have 301 buttons to worry about.

Do you really want to see what clutter is, well be prepared for a list of things that I have on my many bars. These are just the basic things, nothing special here. Thank god for bartender.

Endless Healing Potion

That is 61 so far.  No other class I play has half that many and I play all other nine classes.  I am pretty sure I missed a few and I have not even touched on the macros yet.  Are you ready for those?  That puts me well over 100 different things (counting different key binds for macros) after I am done with those.  Most of them are key bound and used for maximum DPS reasons.  Knowing which macro to hit and when to hit it can be really important.

I will not list them all but to give you an idea of what I do I will give you some examples.

Aimed Shot 1 - Standard Aimed Shot (from above)
Aimed Shot 2 - Aimed and Kill Command
Aimed Shot 3 - Aimed and Kill Command and Rapid Fire
Aimed Shot 4 - Aimed and Kill Command and Silence Shot
Aimed Shot 5 - Aimed and Kill Command and Silence Shot and Rapid Fire

I have the same for Steady, Chimera, and Arcane. (Collectively combined for space but they all have their own key binds)

I have a utility Macro that does targeting for things I need to target quickly.

I have a rotating spot I put utility things in for specific fights, like the rocket pack for gunship or the mount in occulus and the such. Not really a macro but key bound, you get the idea.

I have a spot for a lock health stone. Same as above, not really a macro but key bound.

I have a frost/snake and a explosive/snake macro.

I have a disengage, raptor, wing clip macro.
I have a disengage, raptor, wing clip macro that disengages from the closest target that is not my target.  Awesome for PvP because it launches you in a different direction instead of just backwards.  It does have PvE uses as well.

A misdirect macro is a must for any half way decent Hunter and of course there is one of those.

A masters call macro for focus or mouse over.

There are so many little things I have macros for, some are used often and others not but all need to be ready to roll.  Having to make a macro for a fight seconds before the fight begins makes you a bad hunter.  Do not be a bad hunter.

So what this all comes back to is the fact that I am jealous, fully and completely and seriously jealous that every other class in the game could get away with the basic blizzard UI if they really wanted to and I can't.  Even if I dropped the junk like mounts and professions I would never come close to being able to use the basic blizzard UI.  Even if I condensed some of the macros, which I could do easily, I still would not come close.

Once I decided to see what I could do to have a minimum of things needed on my UI and I could still not get below 40 which effectively rules out a hunter ever being able to use the blizzard UI.  I love our utility.  I love that I am actually getting better of using all that utility.  I am just jealous that other classes could do 10K DPS while only using 3 or 4 buttons (and at the most 8 or 9) and be considered an asset to a raid while I have to manage at the very least 18 different key bindings just for my standard solid priority not even considering utility spells.

No wonder there are so many Huntards out there.  I am guessing that 99.9% of the people that like to call Hunters Huntards would never make it one raid trying to play a Hunter.  Have you ever thought the reason there are so many bad Hunters is because they are actually hard to play well?

I want a nice, small, clean UI and I am jealous at all those people that have one.  It is so unfair.  In the end I have used all my bars, all my macro space, and am still left looking for ways to condense things.

One thing I must say that makes a Hunter's life easier however is how auto attack works.  If I am on a target and hit 3 for aimed shot for example then it will start to auto shoot as well even if aimed shot was on cool down or I had no mana.

On my other characters I needed to make macros for everything.  Like Stormstrike and Lava Lash on my shaman.  I needed to make macros to start auto attack so if I clicked it while it is on cool down it will actually do something.  Nothing worse then spamming mutilate on your Rogue when you have no energy and it not starting the attacking until you do.  Make a start attack/mutilate macro and that never happens again.  I hate that melee classes will not start to auto attack if you hit a skill on cool down.  Give Hunters a +1 for that.  At least that helps me limit more crap I would need that I had to add on other characters.

10/12 ICC +Lots of Achievements

Finally got to 10/12 on my main, my Hunter.  Came away with Portal Jockey and more importantly The Crimson Hall yesterday.  The greatest part of that is that we one shot the prices and the queen.  I have not even tried the princes in months and had never been up to the queen so it was nice to get it done so quickly.  It was in a complete PuG at that, most of which where not uber geared and some of which that had never even experienced these fights.  It goes to show you that people that know what to do are more important then anything else.  Everyone listened to the mechanics, had seen the videos and followed them and things went by smoothly.

The reason I have not run in ages on my Hunter was because I have been working on my Priest.  It is dual purposed because my guild needed another healer and I wanted to give it a shot.  I got into my first 25 man on my priest even if it was only VoA.  I ended up walking away with Toravon the Ice Watcher (25) but no one wanted to stick around for the fire boss which upset me being I actually need gear from that one.  Needless to say, my Hunter luck passed over to my Priest.  Nothing Priest dropped and I was the only Priest in the run which would have meant I would have won it by default.  BTW, the Hunter PvP 264 legs dropped.  I had never seen the Hunter legs drop before of any type.  Only makes sense that they dropped when I was on my Priest.  My Priest also walked away from the weekend adding a slew of achievements as well including: The Wyrmrest Accord, 5 Exalted Reputations, Volazj's Quick Demise, 500 Stone Keeper Shards and Got My Mind On My Money.

My Shaman got a whole slew of beginner 80 achievements, 23 of them to be exact.  While I am tempted to list them all I won't.  Most where doing dungeons for the first time and getting the easy achievements from 5 mans that we all love seeing pop up when we go through with fresh 80s.  I got my first piece of tier 9 on my Shaman now and more importantly I got my blacksmith skill maxed as well.  That is actually how I ended up getting all those dungeon achievements.  Having a DPS as a gatherer is the best idea being you know you will be waiting in query for a while you can gather while doing that.  Multi tasking is what it is all about.  Maximize your time by doing two things at once.  In this case, gathering required goods while waiting for my dungeon.  It is putting my time to better use instead of numbing my mind reading trade while waiting in query.

I made my rounds around Icecrown while in query and ran about 5 dungeons.  In that time I got a bunch of titanium (which where sent to my jewel crafter to be prospected) and more saronite then you could imagine (which after being turned into bars was sent to my transmute master to turn into titanium bars) not to mention the amount of eternals I ended up with was insane.  With all that gathering, and lucky rolls on orbs (to trade in for fires) in the randoms, I had enough material to make enough titansteel bars to craft the last 3 items I needed to get the last 3 points in my blacksmith skill.  That was my intention for the weekend.  Run randoms while gathering until I had enough to up my skill to max.  Amazingly it took a lot shorter of a time then I thought it would.

So now where my professions stand is Tailoring is still 5 away from max, Engineer is still low as are Leather working and Skinning.  Every other profession I have maxed.

I am going to put the hard press on my Rogue next.  Yes, you heard me right.  As much as I despise leveling that piece of crap it is currently my highest non 80 character sitting at 65 (was 63 before the weekend) and it has 2 of the 3 professions I need to work on, Leather working and Skinning.  That is the reason I am going to work on it.  However, before I put the press to 80 on my Rogue there is another little task I need to get done on my Warlock.

I need to get my Warlock to 35 for a few reasons.  One being I am being overloaded with cloth.  Once my Warlock is 35 I can use that cloth to level my Tailoring on it some.  Perfect way to get rid of it and not have to deal with sending it back and forth all the time so I do not lose it like I lost 1200 frostweave cloth once. Side track here, they really need to up cloth to stack to 1000 like arrows and bullets do, this 20 per stack crap does not cut it.  Also, once my warlock is at level 35 then all my characters will be over 35 and once you click 35 you can max out first aid.  A warlock making frostweave badges will really be helpful when leveling.

Then there is the preparation for the Pilgrim's Bounty in November.  Yes, I know November is still a bit away but I always plan in advance.  Cataclysm will be out by then and I know I will not be playing around with alts, I will be working on my main and my secondary main for sure but I will want to take advantage of one thing that the Pilgrim's Bounty offers that no other world event offers.  Cooking.  Cheap and fast leveling of cooking.  You need to be at least level 35 to train past skill level 300.  With the supplies that are offered during the event you can power level cooking from 1 to 350 for less then it costs of a level 80s repair after a bad raid night.  Who in the right mind would not take the chance to level cooking from 1 to 350 for nearly nothing?  All my newer characters I have barely if ever touched cooking on for this one reason.  I will power level during the Bounty for a near nothing cost.  Now that is thinking ahead.

Then, when the time comes, from all the meat and fish I have saved up in my guild bank on my bank alt I can easily level all my characters from from 350-450 and possibly more being Cataclysm will be out by then.  It will all depend on if they are keeping it that you can max out with only being level 35.

It was another eventful weekend for my stable of characters and it felt good to get my Hunter out for some fun again.  I missed playing it and it felt good to have something to do with it again.  The way I figure it is that there are only 7 weeks left until Cataclysm so there is still so much more to do before then on my Hunter.  One is ZG for the mounts and rep.  Only 14K rep left, but I will still keep running it for the ever elusive mounts.
