Bart Simpson: Hey! I found a shortcut through your hedge maze.

      Groundskeeper Willie: Why you little...

Groundskeeper Willie: [thinking] No, no, go easy on the wee one. His father's going to go crazy and chop 'em all into haggis!

      Bart Simpson: What's haggis?

Groundskeeper Willie: [gasps] Boy... you read my thoughts! You've got the Shinning.

      Bart Simpson: You mean "Shining".

Groundskeeper Willie: [sotto voce] Shh! You want to get sued? Now look, boy: if your Dad goes gaga, you just use that... Shin of yours to call me and I'll come a running. But don't be reading my mind between four and five. That's Willie's time!

I am surprised this got responses so quickly.

  3. Reminds me of Rift where there are two types of quests only: kill and collect. I prefer kill ones. Collect ones are stupid, sincer all players fight over the same things to collefr. Overall crap experience.

    2. I prefer kills ones too. Even more so in rift. With those high graphics and me being color blind I could not find half the stuff I needed to collect sometimes.

  4. I did wonder if this was perhaps in response to "blizzard plans on simplifying currency in warlords". To quote from a quote.

"We think we can take the bonus rolls system and make it a little bit more intelligent, so that it tries to avoid giving you duplicate loots - and allow that to be the way players counteract bad RNG. It removes a little bit of the grind and a little bit of the awkwardness of the current valor system."

I really hope not. I knew it was a pipedream and unlikely to happen, however I was still hoping for a revival of the currency system in Warlords, not to just do away with it altogether. You know what someone had to say it. I miss Cata. I don't miss Cata content, but I miss how things were done.

All I'm waiting for now really is confirmation on how exactly heroic dungeons work on the gearing ladder, and some sort of promise (which I know is easily broken) that new dungeons/new tuning/new loot/whatever will be released throughout the expansion. I am this close to quitting. I had hoped that like in Cata and Wrath etc. this would be paired with a nice currency system. I guess I really was dreaming.

I hope the post was a joke and you aren't as burnt out as I am. Honestly I am this close to snapping and just quitting. The only reason I haven't is obligation. It's not my guilds fault that our guild leader has gone round the twist and is annoying the hell out of me, it's not their fault that we're short tanks so I'm having to raid twice as much as I'd prefer, it's not their fault that I'm fed up of Siege and hacked off that there's still no news of the next expansion, so there's not even anything to hope for.

Honestly, if I wouldn't feel so damn guilty I would quit right now. You really didn't need to know that, I should probably delete that rant but I won't. I'm frustrated. I agree completely with your comment/post that I read here, about the last tier being kinda pointless, given gear will be replaced by quest greens. I've never been a heroic raider so I'm done when we clear it on normal and we did that weeks ago.

Oh btw paladins can solo tank Garrosh, not just druids, did it last night :) Though there was that paladin that solo tanked that 5 manning Garrosh, that was pretty damn incredible. So you probably already knew paladins could do that.

    /end randomness

    1. Ding ding ding, we have a winner. That is exactly what I was thinking about when I wrote this. I could not bring myself to write a real post. Actually, after hearing that I really have no desire to ever even log in again.

Our paladin is just not as good with his timing and to solo tank it you need to be pretty spot on with it. I am sure with practice he would be able to but is it worth doing a dozen or more wipes while he learns at this point? Most would say no.

I will make a proper post about the quote you mentioned some day. If I feel like it. Honestly, I just posted this today because I did not want to talk about the game at all, I don't care about the game at all at this particular moment, reading that one quote made me want to cancel my subscription instantly, but for some odd reason I felt I had to post something, sort of out of obligation.

Oddly enough, I did not expect as many responses as this one has received already. Quite surprising.

    2. Found the article:
Blizzard plan to strip currency systems from World of Warcraft raiding in Warlords of Draenor

During Cata, I valor capped almost every single week until the end of the expansion. There was always something to spend valor on. First PvE gear, then convert to Conquest and get PvP gear. It kept me playing the game each week.

In Mists, I've hardly played since 5.4 came out and I've been at the 3000 valor cap almost the whole time. I'm not actively raiding so I can only get upgrades from the world bosses and they are being very stingy with loot (keep giving me stuff I already have...). RNG SUCKS!!!!

Now in WoD, they're going to make it even worse. It's really like Blizz wants me to quit playing...

      Delete
    3. Cata also had BoEs you could but with valor which was awesome, there was always something to buy with it.

On my main server with 13 90s they are all capped or close to it. Basically because I only upgrade anything under 553 as a last resort. Each week I have trouble trying to see which character to cap because it is getting harder and harder.

Sorry to say but I would rather buy a 553 valor piece for an alt then upgrade a 502 piece any day. Not to mention, the valor way my alt becomes viable, whereas upgrade my alt still has shit gear for the current content.

Screw RNG, give me valor gear.

I am on the verge. Giving them time to see if they change their mind on how they are going to do this. I have already told my guild that I am considering quitting and I am going to be picking a new raid leader as soon as I read no valor gear.

Sure my main does not need it because it is my main. But I play other characters and I can not raid on all of them, there is not enough time in the day for that. So they need valor gear if I want to keep them up to date. If I can not gear them I can not have them ready and I can not have fun with them. If I can not have fun with them, why play?

  5. I'm assuming this is related to the TI rare mob rare drops for the achievement... I never even considered working on that.

    <-- Sane(ish)

I'm having yet another rough world boss week, though, so sympathies with the issue in general... it's been at least a month since a toon I care about got an upgrade, when loot does drop, it's dupes, usually one that's already dropped multiple more times than I need. At least the failbag gold is decent and dupe items can occasionally be DEed.

Blizz is talking about making bonus rolls specifically smarter in terms of minimizing dupes, basically getting rid of VP as a gear acquisition currency going forward (as they've already done in 5.4). Earn your bonus rolls, use them on the bosses of your choice and, hopefully sooner than later, you'll finally get whatever particular piece of gear you wanted, sooner on average than today. Seems like a decent compromise to me, still RNG but one that offers a lot more control than the current roll protection does... and one that shouldn't ignore weapons like currency typically has.

(same info as Tait above, much different response to it)

    1. I gave up on that a long time ago. Took me 94 or 96 kills (not sure, but close to 100) just to get one thing I was camping, now to do that for dozens of other things including things that are super are because you have to kill a million things to get them to spawn, then hope you can get to it before it dies because it dies in 4 seconds to any decently geared person solo I said fuck that shit. No way in hell I am going to do this achievement. Blizzard is out of their mind. The least they could have done is made progress toward the achievement account bound.

Blizz can talk all they want about bonus rolls being made smarter. Does not mean they will.

They said they increased coin rare to get loot and they didn't. Three people in my guild brought alts to a run, used 10 coins each, they won 1 piece of loot between them. That is not exactly what I would call increased loot drop.

Lets say they do make it smarter, which we know they won't, and this boss drops bracers that I do not want because I have better itemized ones, but if I get the bracers I will need to hold on to them, so I have them in my bags that way when I use another coin I will not get the useless bracers again.

So blizzard wants us to keep shit gear in our bags to increase the chance we will get the item we want? Again, fuck that shit.

RNG needs to be removed, not increased. I swear I want nothing to do with this game and its horrible loot system any more.

  6. I wish the TI bigger bag achieve was account wide progress. They say they want us to not feel tied to a character that's why they introduced account wide mounts and achieves, yet the progress within an achieve is still by character so it defeats the purpose. I would have a number of more achievements if it counted cross account.

Short of them allowing you to select which item you'd like should your bonus roll actually win I don't think it will be good. They should just go back to the Valor gear vendor that every patch gets moved down to Justice without any rep requirements. And while they're at it make it so the valor buff per week is account wide not server.

    1. I agree 110%, bigger bag should be account wide. I have gotten so many things on other characters that my main has not looted. The thing of cinderfall? Two characters got it but my main didn't. The thing off rock moss? Three characters got it but not my main. The pet of the python, nothing for my main but I've looted it on two others. Etc. I would be almost done with it if it were account wide. I would need only 2 things I think, the one off the rare ox and the one off the rare crab. And those extra suck to begin with because they are never up. I've seen the ox 2 times ever and the crab 3 times ever.

I want valor gear back, I want earning my gear back. I hate this luck based loot system. Make me earn it, give me valor gear back. For my main it does not matter, I raid all the time with it, but valor gear made me want to play my alts, to gear them up, to gain valor. Now I just do not log into them because there is nothing to do with them. I drag one on the legendary line at a time, finish it, put them on the shelf again forever because there is no valor gear. Removing valor gear was a dreadfully horrible idea.

Wrath had the best design in my opinion. One daily dungeon for 2 emblems. Raiders got more emblems from boss kills. So everyone could buy emblem (valor) gear over time but raiders could buy emblem (valor) gear faster because they were getting more of it each week.

Now that is how you design a reasonable loot system.

      Delete
    2. Yeah I didn't like the daily (prefer a weekly cap), and I didn't like that the name of the emblem changed every patch but yes to that idea of you get points every week.

      Delete
    3. The weekly rewards they changed it to in cataclysm was a better model for someone that did not play every day. I agree.

If they could adopt something like wraths system with a weekly instead of a daily, it would probably go over well.

  7. I had to sleep on how I thought about this but if no valor points is what I have to pay to get smart loot on my coin roll and never get duplicates again I think I'm willing to pay that price. of course that is like my #1 freaking pet peeve! so YMMV.

    1. You are telling me you actually trust blizzard to give us smart loot?

You have way more faith in them than I do. And remember, for smart loot to work you would need to keep the gear you win in your bags so it knows you got it.

So say you have a pair of bracers that are BiS and 4 other bosses drop bracers, you will need to keep those 4 other pieces of garbage gear you do not want just to make sure the smart loot system does not give them to you again because you already have them.

Are you really willing to sacrifice all that bag space keeping all the gear you won that you do not want just so you do not get it again from smart loot. And really even more important, do you really think blizzard will make smart loot? Hell no. They said they increased coin win rate and they didn't.

  8. Drop PVE and switch to PVP, they are still going to have conquest in PVP!

Just kidding, of course. I know.

I think removing points is a silly idea as well. Just silly. I don't know what this change fixes. But I know what it breaks - you have much less control over your progress gear-wise, and, well, that's significant.

Seriously, I don't get why they are doing it. To make the game simpler?? And why would that be necessary? Are there many people who can't figure out that, well, the game has valor points and... what? Were there any complaints? About what? Really, I just don't get it.

Yet there are reasons behind this, nothing is done without a reason, and it looks to me that the real reason for removing valor points was simplification for *Blizzard*. Like, you know, imagine the devs sitting around the table - "hey, what do we do with valor points this extension? do we sell gear or do we do upgrades or?" - "heh, we actually forgot about gear upgrades with new stats, that part of the code hasn't been done yet, could we maybe skip upgrades and sell gear?" - "no, I am from the items team and we don't have room for developing more gear, we have our hands full already, if we sell something for valor, it'd better be same gear that drops from bosses" - ... - "hey, guys, how about we drop that valor thing altogether? it'd be more fun for players, too. maybe. I think." -

    1. ... - unanimous vote to drop valor because it is "more fun"

    2. Don't laugh, I was actually considering that. I love the PvP gearing system. It is intelligent and rewarding and even has a built in catch up system that even if you are bad and can't win you can still get gear, even if slower, in an effort to make you better.

PvE needs to use the PvP gearing system and stop with the RNG crap. In the end PvP might be what keeps me playing. Who would have thought that.

They should not be building the game around what makes it easier for them. They should be building the game around what makes it better for the player.

I am sure some sort of point system will return because they said they were planning on keeping item upgrade and unless they make them gold only as a gold sink something will be needed for it.

Would suck if they remove valor and then add it back with a different name and then use that as their defense for why there is not valor gear. We can't have valor gear because we have no valor. Duh. Yeah, I can see them doing something stupid like that.

      Delete
    3. Thats a bit hyperbolic, Do you have to keep an item in your bags to prove that you have completed a quest? no you don't there's ton's of ways they could code it choosing one at random and then makeing arguments based on what you decided they HAVE to do is a bit silly.

      Delete
    4. @Tiggi: Not sure I get the point.

      Delete
    5. @Tiggi

Do you really think that blizzard is going to build an entire system to see what you have won off that boss so they do not give it to you again? Or do you think the system will look to see if you have it, and if you do, not give it to you?

I've coded before, did it for nearly 10 years. Trust me when I say it is much more likely they will do a simple check to see if you have it instead of adding coding to keep track of everything you have won.

I could be wrong of course, maybe they will add extra fields to keep track of what you won. If so, all that extra work for a stupid reason would really explain why we are waiting so long. So maybe you are right.

Either way, I would rather earn my gear than wait on luck. Any day. Earning > Luck.
