What Is Your Last Release Guess?

There are not many hours left on the clock before we find out when the warcraft expansion is going to come out.  I've some mixed feelings about it.  While not really excited for the announcement because I am of the school of thought we should have been playing warlords for months already and be talking about the first raid patch now as in the second tier of raiding for the expansion, not the release, I do still have feelings about it being released both looking forward to and not looking forward to.

For example I am not really looking forward to having to relearn all my classes again.  I wasn't very good with most of them to begin with and now I need to learn them all over again.  But on the other hand it will be nice to have a date being I usually like to take some time off when an expansion is released and I always save one of my four weeks just for that, if I can that is.

I have heard a great deal of good arguments for when it will be released.  A few very powerful ones that aim toward October and December.  Makes me wonder what would happen if they threw us all a curve ball and released it in November effectively screwing a great deal of players out of the anniversary content and making it really iffy with blizzcon running around the same time.  I guess that is why I have yet to hear any decent arguments for a November release.

For the record I am going to go with the October 14th date because no matter how great some of the arguments were for a December release blizzard has a track record of releasing an expansion 2 months after its announcement and companies usually like to remain predictable when it comes to things like this.  I guess we will all find out soon.

So, last chance to make your guess.

When do you think it will be released?

  1. October 10th. Lets get this bad boy out of the door over a weekend. Sure the hotfixes will be slower but its the weekend so any work days off will just extend the initial first rush of new things.

Can't see past the end October though, unless they really want the anniversary to be annoying.

    1. I am really still believing the mid october as the date but I must say some people have presented compelling arguments for december. Not sure I want to wait that long however.

It would be interesting to see it released on a weekend. I don't see why they can't outside of the fact they never have. That would be one hell of an interesting curve ball.

    2. Guessing the no weekend thing is purely for the bug fix support, cheaper to not pay the weekend rates for overtime.

December would be disappointing, would feel far too dragged out then. But October, ah that would get the tingles tingling. Enough time to casual get one toon to 100 before the MC fun kicks in.

    1. Who would have ever guessed mid November? Not me.

    3. Should not be a problem for a raider, I am usually max level on at least 2 characters by then, but for the vast majority of players that will be brutal if not impossible.

    4. I'll be ok for the first one, that one always powers through but after that I like to read the quests. Thank the lord for account wide mounts

    5. That will be a cool bonus, you only need to do it on one character. And quite honestly I can't see wanting to do a 40 man raid with LFR style more than once to begin with.

    6. Yeah, noone got it right :-)))

I am fine with November. Because I expected December, obviously.

    7. I was so hoping for October. I am kind of sad it is November. Not only because we have to wait another month, but now I do not think I can take my customary vacation to level a few characters like I normally do. The owner goes on vacation around then and as second in command at my company if he is not there I have to be. No buts about it.

  3. Still pretty much on blog reading hiatus but had to pop back in for the prediction and eventual reveal discussion.

In terms of a guess, my guess going into the reveal (which has happened by now, obviously) was the first or second week of Oct. They HAD to get the game out before Blizzcon or, at the very worst and to my great disappointment, immediately afterward. I was CONVINCED that they wouldn't have done Blizzcon if there was any chance it wouldn't have been out at or before that time, it would have been a PR disaster (paying big bucks to attend a trade show that's one big bitch session? There's how to please the customers!). Dec made no sense... even early Oct didn't make much, why have Blizzcon within a month of release? Players will still be playing seriously at that point. Guess immediately afterward was their only real choice once it was pushed back this far.

Disappointed... but I'll save my larger rant for the next post. Plus, upside, I have time to finally get around to trying to get the CMs done, this should mean 6.0 will be a while still.

    1. Using that logic I would say the immediate after does make sense. I still think I would have liked October better.
