November 13th, 2014 - Warlords Release Date

In what has to be a surprise to everyone it seems like warlords is coming out in November.  In my last post I said it would not surprise me if blizzard through us a curve ball and gave us a November release.  I said it, but I never really expected it.

What does this mean for the 10th anniversary events?  That is my biggest question now because you know a fair amount, as in most, of the players will not be max level by the time the 10th anniversary comes around.

Either way, what do you think?  Good, bad, indifferent.

I guess I am happy with it, I think I am most happy with it because it was not expected.  I like to see that sometimes.

  1. They really need to have the 10th anniversary content last a month or more. If its just 2 weeks, that is gonna suck. I don't want to use vacation days from work just to level through content as fast as I can.

    1. It will be at least 2 weeks, we know that for sure thanks to a tweet (that I don't want to try to find) where someone asked and one of the blues said that they would have a couple of weeks to get it done.

I doubt they would put it on for a whole month, but then again I would have doubted they would put warlords out in november, so it proves I know nothing anyway. lol

    1. I doubt it and even if they did change it they would only change it to 90, not 95, and would probably make you need to spend a ton of justive points upgrading it to do so. Just like they did with upgrading the 80s to 85.

    2. you are forgetting the darkmoon faire heirlooms (the same stuff). all I spent was the heirloom peice plus 50% more tickets.

I was thinking 95 because the heirlooms were from 1-80 when lvl 85 then 1-85 when lvl 90. But instead of a just 5 increase, it is being done by 10 from 90 to lvl 100. Hence 1-95 heirlooms.

    3. Being 90-100 is this expansion they might up them to 90, which was the previous expansion, but they will not give us heirlooms to help us through current content, meaning 90-100. They want to string that along as long as possible. That is part of the reason there will be no flying.

    4. ok, I buy that, but really, how are we (the regular player, not hard core as some might mistake me for, but pretty casual) suppose to get in a few days to 100 to be able to try to participate in the LFR for the corehound mount without those heirlooms to 95.

You raiders and dungeon dwellers have the right, so do I.

    5. Leveling 10 levels will take roughly the same amount of time it took us to level 5 levels this time around. It will not be any longer. Just more level numbers make it appear so.

For example. Say it took you 100,000 experience to get from 85 to 90, 20K per level. It will take 100,000 to get from 90 to 100 at 10K per level. Of course those are not real numbers, but just meant to show it will take the same about of time to do 10 as it did to do 5.

From all the people I talked to on the Beta they all said it took them less time to level to 100 than it did to 90. I guess that is why they increased the experience needed recently. But either way, if it took you 2 weeks to get to 90 you can expect it to take you 2 weeks to get to 100, no longer.

  3. Eh, I'll level and get it done. I was already half expecting a November release BECAUSE of Brewfest last xpac and one of the blues also confirmed it would be a level 100 anniversary event.

    I feel... fine about it.

People said they wouldn't do it...

Trying very hard not to tell friends "I told you so".

They did seem to indicate that it might be around longer than 2 weeks... but that may be my interpretation rather than what they really mean.

    1. I think an october date would have been more friendly to the player base. I doubt the majority of the player base will be 100 that quickly. Maybe the type of people that would post here might, but the average player that never even looks anything up online quite possibly could take much longer to get to 100. I feel bad for them.

Hey, say I told you so, if you were predicting November you were one of a very few that was. You deserve your props.

I interpreted it as 2 week because of the use of the world "couple" in the statement, as in a couple of weeks. If it is intended to be longer they probably would have said "few". But there is still a lot of time, with some feedback on the forums they can easily extend it to 3 or even 4 weeks, which I am sure will happen because lots of people are bound to be upset with feeling forced to level so fast.

  4. I am fine with the date, because I expected worse.

I have to say though... I was very surprised by the cinematic. I expected less, much less. If the entire movie is like that, it's going to be great.

It was good, the event, the news. I liked it. Waiting for WoD now.

    1. I liked the cinematic however I did have one huge issue with it.

For myself, and you, and others like us that know the story it was kind of cool to see. We knew the characters, we knew what was going on, we know the impact of the changes and what it means to say they will not be slaves. It means something to us because we know the story.

Will a cinematic like that bring people to the game that have never played it before and know nothing about it? I highly doubt it. It seemed focused on getting people that know the game interested in it. Not to get people that do not know the game to want to try it out.

    2. I'll watch it (havent yet) but it's like all commercials - what you see for game play is not.

    3. After 10 years if you do not know the game you aren't going to be playing it.
as to the Date... It's not the date we need but probably the one we deserve.

    4. I think they have admitted that their new efforts are to get veteran players to resub, rather than first time players into the game. That's what I figure this whole nostalgia kick is about.

Having dropped 4 million subscribers since end of Wrath, that is a large population of potential resubbers. Or maybe they just want to hold onto their veteran players, and figure if they can keep 6-7 million of us for the next ten years, then thats a crap load of profit.

I am please with the viewpoint of this xpac. I think I'll get to feel like a badass as I did in BC/Wrath, instead of Cataclysm's tree hugger environmentalist or MoP's Orkin Man.

    5. @Tiggi

Every game needs to keep drawing new people in. Just because the game is old does not mean new people would not be interested in it. If they only work on the "keep what they have" approach the numbers will keep dwindling. Sure they might never have the numbers they did before, but to not try and appeal to new players and try to get new people into the game is a writing their own death certificate. They are too smart to let their game die and say screw it and not try to get new people into the game.

      @Troutmonkey

As I mentioned to Tiggi, I think it is a mistake to focus only on older players. Sure they might get some back but most that left left for a reason. A new expansion, no matter how nostalgic, is not going to bring them back if the reason is still there otherwise.

I would like to see them in growth mode trying to get more people instead of a holding pattern trying to keep things where they are. Just my opinion of course. But if they start with faster expansions and we only have this for a year and a half at most, it will not be as much of an issue. Do this to get some people back and do another quick to get new people into it.

    6. The cinematic was cool, but as the cinematic for the expansion it left me cold - it didn't have the spine tingling effect others have had.

Now, the 1st Lords of War animation looking at the origins of the Shattered Hand clan? That was awesome & had a "Wait, we're going against *this* lot?" feel to it.

    7. I agree. It was cool to watch but most definitely did not have that spine tingling feeling.

I thought the Lords of War was so much better and so much more dramatic. I wanted to join their side when it was over.

  5. I thought it was a bit odd to only give us 10 days to level if we want to do MC as soon as possible. And I quite like to take my time on the levelling since it always goes too fast now anyhow for me. Hoever I am stilll holding out hope that they will release MC along with the patch and then we could all go through as a filler and might keep people from unsubbing for 3 months

    1. The anniversary event will run at least 2 weeks because it always does, they might even extend it to 4 being it is the 10th anniversary.

That means at worst there is another 14 days and at best another 28 days for people to get to max and participate.

I think I like the idea I read someone say, just make the raid 90+ and scale everyone to 100. They have the tech, they use it on beta. That way no one needs to rush.

  6. I've been expecting for quite some time that the release would be after Blizzcon. At this point, Nov. 13th is the earliest they could release anyway considering that 6.0 needs to come out and then WoD and the world first race with Blizzcon fitting in there somewhere.

So I'm not surprised at all.

    1. I really thought the idea of doing it before blizzcon would be best so they can release and start pumping the first content patch at blizzcon, which you know is already in the works even if the expansion is not out yet.
