Epic Pets? Thanks but No Thanks Blizzard.

There was a recent announcement that they would, or could, be adding epic pets next expansion.  Currently the highest we can make out pets is rare.  There will be new epic pets in the world, presumably the new continent, and new stones you can buy that can make older pets epic.

I will admit I have not been into pet battles like I used to be.  At one point I was top 100 in the world in terms of pets, in terms of pets of quality, and in terms of pets leveled.  I was also one of the first (to my knowledge following achievement sites) to get the 5000 pet battle achievements.

But the sad part, and mostly why I stopped being into it so much, was when my computer died some time back and I lost everything which meant I also lost the data saved for my addons.  This meant I lost all the teams I had made.  And I had one made for each and every single battle to make going from tamer to tamer so much easier.

So when I got my new computer I had no teams saved because blizzard in their infinite wisdom by default only allows for one team at a time.  I honestly do not know how anyone lives without an addon to have as many teams as they want I understand even less why blizzard has not added that as a standard feature yet.  I wish they would add an unlimited team options instead of epic pets, if you ask me at least.

Because of that I have not been into pet battling that much this expansion.  I do have all the new pets, I do have nearly all the pets I own not only rare but leveled, and while I have not taken advantage of getting tons of charms to sock up on stones I have managed to get a nice little pile of them and all the toys, of course.

So I have earned my pet battle stripes, even if they are a little old and not really put to use much any more.  So with that all said I believe that my opinion should hold some weight on the matter.  It is not like I was never "into" pet battling.  It is not like I have "so much" work to do to catch up as everything is already maxed.  It is not like I have no intention to ever pet battle again, I do, and I believe some day I might get back into it as much as I was before.

With all that said...

I DO NOT want to see epic pets added to the game.

It is only my personal opinion, but it is the opinion of someone that likes the mini game of pet battling.  Who has hunted down rare pets.  Who has leveled well over 1000 of them to 25 for myself and for friends.

One of the reasons I like pet battling is because it has an end.  I like knowing that I did everything I wanted to.  I have everything there is to collect.  I like that there is a set ending line.  It makes for the perfect mini game.  A mini game, as I consider pet battling, should not have "progression" like raiding does.  It should not have us level up every expansion or increase gear with every patch.  That is why I have liked it so much.  Pet battling is what pet battling is.  Nothing more.

Having us have to boost our pets to get them to max once again, by adding an epic version, just makes more work for something I was done with.  If my Lurky is rare and 25 than guess what, my Lurky is done and so are the other 999 pets he hangs out with on a daily basis in whatever mansion sized pet house they all exist in that I have never seen and am pretty damn happy I do not have to clean up with all those pets living there.

I do not like having to level all my characters each expansion, but I do it.  There are only so many of them.  But there are hundreds, even a thousand (or more for some) pets out there.  I do not want to have to gather enough stones to make 1000 pets I worked to make rare into epic now, basically doing the same work I already did a second time.  Hell no blizzard, I did all that work already, I do not want to do it again.  And if they lose levels when you increase their rarity when they are over a certain level, which they most likely will do, that means I need to also level those hundreds and possibly thousand pets again.  Hell no blizzard.  I was done, they were 25, leave it be.  This is a mini game, this is not the next expansion for them.  This is not a regearing up process for them.  Pets are what they are, let them be.

So I will repeat, I DO NOT want to see epic pets added to the game.  Hell no.

I know I am in the minority here, but I just do not want to have to level all my pets again and I do not want to have to increase the rarity of a thousand pets.  It just seems like way to much work for a mini game.  Thanks but not thanks blizzard.  I'll pass.

6.2 is Coming

You might notice that the background downloader is currently downloading 6.2 data.  Most likely it is art, data files, and the new raids, but it is usually a sign that they are getting near the end of the ptr testing.

I am surprised that it is coming this soon personally.  While we are all complaining about the lack of outdoor content or content we wish to do in general, this is way too soon.  At least from a raiding perspective and from the perspective that is it not adding any of the things we were complaining there was a lack of.

Blackrock foundry came out so close to highmaul and now the new raid will be coming out closer to BRF than anyone expected.   As I mentioned in a post the other week my guild is doing extremely poorly this expansion raiding wise.  The worst we have ever done in as long as I can remember.  And yet as poorly as we are doing we are still placed near the top 20% of active raiding guilds.  As a raiding guild in the top 5th of raiding guilds, I would like to think that if I believe it is too soon for another raid then most likely a great many others do as well.  But I can not speak for them.

My biggest problem with 6.2 coming out this soon, outside of the new raid concerns when the vast majority of the raiding player base has not even done the previous two raids yet, is the fact it does absolutely nothing to address the problems we have had all expansion.

There will still be no flying, there will still be no daily hubs, there will still be no repeatable rare mobs to kill in the world worth killing, there will still be very little content to do out in the world, there will still be no choices, options, you know, they things that people like having.  As some say, there will be even be less, as I saw some people complain.

If 6.2 was coming jam packed with content, varied degrees of content and not just more of the same, then it would be a welcome addition in my opinion.  But being it will just be more of the same I say they should hold it back until they can add more to it.

One thing I read about was rare spawn battle pets out in the world being added.  I HATE, yes in all capital letters, HATE this idea.

Having them spawn in only one place in the world and only one at a time means camping out and most likely fighting a dozen other pet collectors for it and then if you get unlucky enough to never snag the pet you wanted, when the next expansion comes out and blizzard once again goes into full on retard mode and makes draenor a cross realm zone you might be now facing hundreds of people trying to get them.  No blizzard, just no.

Camping for hundreds of hours and then hoping you can click on it faster than a hundred other people is not fun.  Never has been, never will be.  No blizzard, just no.  And what makes it even more annoying is that there is no flying.  So that basically means you can not try all spawn points.  You are now forced to set your character at one spawn point and sit there... forever. Not completely horrible for someone like me with tons of level 100s because I will park them in the world in just log in to see if they are there, but dreadful for anyone else.  And lets get real, even if I have a small advantage with so many 100s, it is still dreadful for me too.  It is lazy design for adding content by making people sit out in the world forever waiting for something.  That is not content, that is torture.

When people asked for outdoor content they did not mean give them something where they will just sit there forever in one place waiting.  That is not content worth playing blizzard, that is content worth quitting over.

I have come to the conclusion that for something new to be added to the game it needs to meet at least 3 of 4 criteria.  It needs to be 1) a waste of time, 2) annoying, 3) frustrating, and 4) purely luck based.  If you look at almost everything this expansion it seems to fit at least three of the four requirements.

I say hold 6.2 back.  Hold it back until you can add an actual mix of content into it, not just more of the same.  I don't want more of the same.  Nearly 3 million players already said that with their wallets.  Does blizzard actually want to see how many more subscriptions it can lose?

We want choices in our content blizzard, not more of the same.  Or, at least I do.

A Case for Hunters Controlling Dragonkins and Humanoids and ...

When the expansion first began and I hit 90 that first day I had my friend, who got realm first engineering, make me a ghost iron dragonling trinket with a few cogs for a nice little second you hit 90 boost.

When the trinket proced I had not noticed it proced but I did see a dragon whelp fighting and thought to myself, and said to everyone on vent, "oh my god my dire beast just called a dragon whelp, this is so cool".  Seriously, I thought that is what had happened.  Noob moment much?  Oh come on, I bet someone else out there did the same thing the first time they saw that.

The excitement that dire beast could call a dragon whelp was quickly squashed when I realized it was the trinket the second time it happened but I did think it was so cool and for a few moments at least I considered that it would be really cool to be able to tame a dragon whelp.

Since then, as a hunter, I've had many conversations about what types of pets I would like to tame.

Recently my fellow hunters and I have been talking about things we would like to see tamable in warlords.  Being we do not really know if there will be any new beasts we would just come up with random ideas based on what we know from BC.  It made me wonder, if there is no zanger marsh will there be no sporebats?  Because if there are sporebats we need spirit sporebats or at the least some different color sporebats because we all know that sporebats are the best hunter pet, right?

Outside of thinking what if for something that has not even come out yet I've always wanted a killer rabbit as far back as I could remember.  When I first made a hunter I thought it would be cool to have a rabbit and I was so upset when I found out that I could not have my very own killer rabbit.

When they added one to the darkmoon fair that was not a level 1 critter but something we could fight, thus maybe could be tamed, the first thing that came into my head was that I must tame him.  I have to tame him.  It is a moral imperative that I tame him.  He will be my favorite pet forever and I would go everywhere with my killer rabbit and have him rip out the throats of my enemies and watch blood spurt from their dead bodies.  How cool is that going to be?  But sadly, no darkmoon rabbit pet for me.

Well, not exactly, I do have a darkmoon rabbit pet.  He is just not exactly what I had in mind when I first started the game and said I wanted to get a rabbit as a pet.  Don't get me wrong, I went and got myself a snowshoe rabbit from the dwarven zone when I started my pet collecting many years ago, way before battle pets.  Hey, I like rabbits, what can I say.

But if I can have a darkmoon rabbit as a battle pet why can't I have a darkmoon rabbit as a companion pet?

Some could argue, and would have a fair point, that when a hunter tames a pet they are basically becoming one with it, connecting with it, making the pet come with you willingly.  Anyone that plays a hunter and has ever tamed a pet know that when a pet joins you it is by choice, it is because they decided to join you, because they like you, love you even, and want to travel with you.  However battle pets are trapped, caged, and forced to battle against their will.

Kind of sad when you think about battle pets that way, but that is exactly the way they are portrayed in the game.  Battle pets do not come with you willingly.  You have to cage them and put them in your battle pet stable and if you ever wanted to let them out you have to place them in a cage to do so.  Battle pets are not willing companions like hunter pets are.

So that argument holds some water.  Just because I have a darkmoon rabbit as a battle pet it does not mean I can have one as a companion pet because the one I do have does not actually want to be with me whereas a companion pet would need to want to be with me.

But as a hunter part of what we are and what we do is to make a connection with pets so they become life long companions that are willing to travel at our side and fight with us.  If that is one of my abilties as a hunter don't you think that even if I did get that darkmoon rabbit against his will that I could not sooner or later use my hunterly charms on it to convince it to fight by my side instead of fighting to the death against his will as a caged beast?

That could make for a very good case that anything a hunter should be able to tame as it is or something that could be considered appropriate for a hunter to have as a companion pet to begin with, a hunter should be able to take out of the pet cage and bring into the world.  So all those different spiders, even the elemental ones, should be able to be used as both a battle pet and a companion pet because hunters can tame spiders.

So saying that I should be able to use my darkmoon rabbit as a hunter pet instead of a battle pet is not very far fetched at all is it?  It might not be a beast, but neither are the elemental spiders and those would make sense to be useable right?  It is an animal and hunters tame animals.  So you would not really be stretching it to any meaningful degree to say that I should be able to use my darkmoon rabbit as a hunter pet too.

But if we wanted to stretch it some we could.  What about having a dragon whelp as a hunter pet?  How about a wolvar as a hunter pet?  Maybe have a cloud serpent as a hunter pet? If we can have them as a battle pets why can we not have them as hunter pets?

In the end the results are the same, or if anything, from the pets standpoint, being a hunters pet would be at least marginally better off than being a battle pet.  Battle pets fight for us and hunter pets fight with us.   Don't you think a hunter, who is well trained in the art of getting pets to travel with us and fall in love with us, should be able to convince battle pets to step out of the stable and into the world with us?

While it might seem weird to see a wolvar pet or a dragonkin pet or could you even imagine having a pandaren monk as a pet it would be perfectly believable for hunters.  If these versions have all been captured to begin with and are already fighting to begin with a skilled hunter should have little or no issue with getting them to fight willingly with them in the world instead of doing so as some sort of slave in battles to the death.

I believe that hunters should be able to use any battle pet as a hunter pet.  Call it out to be by their side and fight with it while they face the forces of evil through this and any other world we might visit.

Can you just imagine the look on the face of someone in a battle ground when they see a giant red singing sunflower tearing them to shreds while singing "there are zombies on my lawn".  If there were ever a reason to support hunters being able to use all battle pets as hunter pets that would make for a very convincing one.  More convincing than the fact I want to use my darkmoon rabbit as a pet I guess.

Do you think hunters should be able to use battle pets as companion pets?
Or maybe just beast versions?
If they could which battle pets would you love to see as companion pets?

What if: You Could Breed Pets?

This what if question is not really out of the realm of possibly.  For those that may not have noticed nearly all pets have a male and a female version out there.  Sure looking at your Alpine Hare you can not tell the difference but there is an entry in the database that shows what "type" of pet it really is.

Your pet could very well be male or female and you will never notice it.  Just like some pets have higher life but lower speed and power while others have higher speed but are lower in health and power.  There are various combinations that are dictated by a flag in the database that makes your pet have the statistics it does.

So breeding might be possible some day in the future and I was thinking about what if it were added as the way to get epic pets and it would be the only way to get epic pets.

Lets jump into the game of speculation and wonder what if we could breed pets, how would it work?

1) Double Power Epic:

Lets say you have an Alpine Hare that has the health boost and an Alpine Hare that has the strength boost.  Breeding them could end up with the result of an Alpine hare that has both increased health and increased power along with its already fast speed making for a really power house bunny.

Something like that would surely be epic wouldn't it?  Makes you wonder if this is how epic pets will be added.

2) Cross Breed Epic:

We all have our favorite pets but sometimes our favorite pet just won't cut it.  As much as I love my killer rabbit from the darkmoon faire there are fights he was just not cut out for.  So perhaps I can breed my Darkmoon Rabbit with a Fel Flame and if I am lucky enough I will end up with a elemental Darkmoon Rabbit or maybe even a critter Fel Flame.

Something like this cross breeding would have to be considered epic because it is off the chart of average.  It is not something that can be found in game.  It is something that needs to be breed if you want to get it.

I can just imagine already having an entire army of Darkmoon Rabbits of all types.  A mechanical one, a magic one, a beast one, a humanoid one... I just feel like letting out an evil cackle of a mad scientist and I build my army of Darkmoon Rabbits.  Fear the bunny brigade.

3) Dual Breed Epic:

What if I breed my Darkmoon Rabbit with the Fel Flame and ended up with a Darkmoon Rabbit that now counted as both a critter and an elemental.  It would have the strengths of both of them as well as the weaknesses of both of them.

Something like that would be really tricky in battle with double the weakness but if planned correctly and against the right team double the strength would be about as powerful as powerful could get.  Epic indeed.

4) Double Boost Epic:

Maybe you can only breed equals in this what if world and you have a male Alpine Hare with a health boost so you head out and find yourself a female Alpine Hare with a health boost and let them spend the weekend at the bunny hut to do what it is bunnies do when they are left unattended for any length of time.

Would you come back to find a double health boost Alpine Hare?  Not only will it have more health than the average one but it would have double that amount giving it a really robust health pool to enter battle with.  This would surely be epic would it not?

5) Breed Only Epic:

How about the epic pets be ones that can only be attained by breeding two rare pets together?  Lets say you could breed two of the harder to find pets together to make one special pet of that type.  Like the Unborn Val'kyr and the Restless Shade, two undead creatures, and maybe get a new undead of the epic quality called the Restless Val'kyr.

6) Upgrade to Epic:

Then there is the simple breeding to get an epic idea.  Just breed two rares of the same type and hope and pray that your fuzzy little companions bless you with a runt of the purple variety.  No special power boosts, no dual classes, no new beast, just an epic version of the two you mixed.  So you want to get yourself an epic Alpine Hare?  Find a male and a female and let them go at it until they breed you an epic baby Alpine Hare.

There are so many ideas I could go on and on.

There would have to be some rules to the breeding of course.  Depending on which type it would be.  Outside of the obvious one where you would need a male and a female of course.  Maybe for some of the breeding combinations you could only breed them in the summer, or winter.  Others could only be breed if you start the breeding process at night while others only during the day.  Perhaps they could even have specific ones that are breed only during specific events.  Like there would be a new rabbit that can only be breed during the noblegarden event.  Or a undead that can only be breed during the halloween event.

You would have to believe that it is possible that some day in the future epics pets might make their way into the game but what better way to make the epic pets than to make them breed only pets.  Keep the world pets, the achievement pets, the purchasable pets all of the rare at best quality and do not add any epic stones.  Those will always be rare at best but if you want epic, you have to make epic.

To make the epic pets more epic of course you would need to add chance to the mix, for as much as I do not like the "luck" factor, it would have to be there.  Limited time pets would have a very high chance to be breed like the noblegarden one, but the ones that are year round would have to be only a small chance to get an epic.  Maybe you would get a poor or common or uncommon or even rare, but being stones will only ever get you up to a rare, if you want that pet of epic variety you need to keep breeding until you hit the breeders jackpot.

It would not need to be left only at what I mentioned as the 6 possible epic pets that could all come.  It could be so much more.  So many mixes and matches and so many layers that will make you earn your pets.

For example, a good pattern for making a really hard to get epic would be something like you need to breed a critter and an elemental to get a dual pet that is both critter and elemental and then you would need to breed a magic and a beast to get one that is both a magic and a beast.  So once you have your magic/beast epic and your critter/elemental epic you can now breed those two together to get that noblegarden special pet.   So while that rare limited pet will be one that you can get easier with much less left to luck, the process to build up to it would still require work and a little bit of luck.  So those, like myself, that are unlucky, if we plan in advance, we can get our magic/beast and critter/elemental ready in advance so we don't have to get the beat down from lady luck.

There are so many things that can be done with breeding but one thing is for sure, if they ever add it, we will need a lot more than 1000 pet spaces.  That is for sure.

What if you could breed pets?  How do you see it as happening if it ever does?

I would like to see it as the only way to get epic pets is from breeding and breeding only.  That seems a lot more epic than just using a stone to upgrade it or heading out in the world to catch it.  It would be the perfect place to add breeding in my opinion.

As a little side note, as I see it, you should only be allowed to breed one pet at a time and the amount of time should depend on the pet coming out.  At least 24 hour breeding time for an epic pet.  Maybe as low as 2 hours if you get stuck with a poor you will end up releasing back into the world.

And where exactly do I see this breeding happening?  In our new player housing area coming next expansion in a breeding pen that was built by someone with the new professions of woodworking and carpentry of course, also coming next expansion.

Monday Random Thoughts

- Today's random thoughts seem to all be about pet battles.

- Maybe that is because weekends are pet battle time for me.

- I am top 500 in the world in pet battles now.

- Not really impressive if you ask me, just means I wasted more of my free time pet battling than 9,999,500 other people did.

- And I do not even have the 30 pets at level 25 achievement yet.

- Goes to show you that not many people are really that heavy into pet battles if I can reach top 500 and not even have a whole slew of level 25s.

- I plan to start working on leveling my pets next weekend being I now officially have every pet you can catch.

- Except the one you only catch in summer.

- I think that is why I rank so high, I have a lot of pets and most all of them are rares.

- The safari hat really does help a ton leveling.

- I leveled two pets from 1 to 25 yesterday with it on in no time at all.

- With the hat and changes to experience you can level a pet from 1 to 25 in an hour if you pick the right area with a high cluster of battle pets you can take out really fast.

- I use the area near the farm.

- Lots of critters so a beast with devour means everything dies in 2 shots and you never need to heal.

- Not to mention many of the pets there will shield or heal themselves on the first move so it is easy to get a level one some experience.

- Depending on what you get you can get to level 5 or 6 in the first battle.

- When out and about trying to catch one of every type of pet I learned there is one thing that needs to be changed.

- If you forfeit a battle it should give you a debuff that does not allow you to start another battle.

- Just like dropping a dungeon or raid gives you a debuff.

- Does not need to be long.  5 minutes would be more than ample.

- I fight every battle I get into.

- I get a chance at a stone and I can level a pet, so I always fight them.

- I hate when looking for a rare of a rare spawn I can see 7 paws on the map and go into one battle and come out and they are all gone.

-  Looking around there is only one other person there and you see them entering and leaving pet battles instantly rare hunting.

- What if someone else just wants one, or would be happy with an uncommon or even a poor.

- These idiots are clearing the area of them and being selfish.

- If you join a battle, battle.

- How hard is that?

- And how about those people that love to just kill the pets.

- I saw on various occasions, a mage running around AoEing all battle pets in an area.

- Why is it always a mage?

- If you want them dead, fight them.

- They need to make battle pets immune to retards that AoE them, that is another change that is needed.

- I know they are making some changes to forfeiting.

- The pets of the player will all lose some life and the battle pet will not despawn.

- Fine, but I would rather the 5 minute lock out, that is more fitting.

- A time out, so to speak, for being a selfish idiot.

- When I battle something I am looking for a rare of and it is not a rare, I finish the battle any way.

- Why can't others do the same?

- I would feel bad if I took the chance of someone else getting it away from them and just left the battle.

- Perhaps that is because I am a nice guy and I actually give a crap about other people enjoying their game too.

- I do not enjoy my game at the expense of others.

- Too bad it seems that the large majority of the player base does enjoy their game at the expense of others.

- As most of my battles seem to be against critters all I ever see are critter stones.

- I have now fought 1400 battle since the change to dropping stones and I have received 4 critter stones and 2 all purpose ones.

- 6 stones in 1400 battles, not exactly a friendly drop rare wouldn't you say?

- If it were even a 1% drop rare I should be at 14 now.

- I would like to see the stones not being soulbound either.

- That would be a nice change too.

- Because at this rate I will never get my other uncommons up to rares if all I get are critter stones, so it would be nice to be able to trade my critter stones for other ones.

- How about making an area where you can trade in a stone for a stone of a different type if you pay 200 gold to make it change.

- That would help too if they are not going to make them unsoulbound.

- As it is, once I have leveled all my critters up to rare the only use a critter stone would have to me being soulbound is to upgrade a buyable and sellable critter just to upgrade it and sell it as a rare.

- Being justice points are useless maybe they should add class specific stones for justice points.

- Even if they were 2000 each it would be worth it.  Something to spend your justice points on.

- I can only imagine how far I would be with pet battles if I started them right away or did them during the week as well.

- Just doing them for a few hours on sundays alone has moved me to having everything and soon to be leveling everything.

- It is only a matter of time because pet battles will no longer be a fun way to pass the time.

- Because for me, the fun is the leveling.

- Without something to level, a destination, there is no fun.

- I've always loved collecting things, it has an end goal.

- Getting all rare pets to 25 is the end goal.

- Once there what do you do?

- I guess I will try PvP pet battles then, still have not tried one yet.

- I have more important things to do.

- I think that is why I do not PvP in game either.

- There is always something else to do.

- PvP is the last in the line of things to do for me in every aspect of this and any game.

- I have to build and develop and once there is nothing left to build and develop, I will consider PvP.

- So now that I have all the pets, even if I do have a lot I need to get better ones of, the quest now switches to leveling pets.

- Which will come first, 5000 battles or 75 level 25 pets.

- I am sitting around 3800 battles now, so that means can I get roughly 50 level 25s before I do 1200 battles.

- I think so, with the changes to experience and the hat, I would say it takes around 40 battles to go from 1 to 25.

- So even if I level only level 1s that means it would take 2000 battles and we know damn well that there are many many level 20+ ones that I will get there first.

- Might be a close call in the end, because getting those last 5 levels take half those battles.

- It takes 20 battles for 1-20 and 20 battles for 20-25.

- Roughly, I did not actually count.

- If I level all level 20s, that would be 1000 battles to get to 75 level 25 pets.

- So like I said, it will be close.

- I now need one more pet for the raiding with leashes achievement.

- Looking at the achievement I think they did it wrong.

- It should not be to collect all the raid pets, it should be to level all the raid pets to 25.

- That would be more of an achievement if you ask me.

- I think once I am done leveling I will level more for gold.

- Being pets are account bound you can sell them on any account.

- This is a great way to make money on a new server when you start there.

- I could level the raid pets to 25 easily.

- Like I said, less than an hour to level from 1 to 25.

- So I get another of the raid pets, level it to 25, start a character on a new server, list it, collect tons of gold.

- On some of the servers I am on some of those raid pets are selling for 40K.

- At level 1.

- If that is the case I an easily see 100K at level 25.

- Can you imagine starting on a new server with 100K.

- That would make things so much easier.

- I have started multi server pet sales already with some multiples.

- Some servers the strand crawler is selling for 10 gold and others it sells for 150.

- Guess which one I am selling the 12 extra I had on?

- And guess what I am going to do when I sell out?

- I will buy them on the 10 gold server and sell them on the 150 gold server.

- If you are like me and have many characters on different servers, you can really make a HUGE amount of gold bouncing around with pet sales.

- I am sure if I actually put my mind to it I could net over a hundred thousand gold a day with the amount of pets I have and the ability to level them so quickly.

- So big money for little work.

- That is the dream of everyone making gold isn't it?

- Now the biggest problem is funneling that gold to the server you really want it on.

- Seems like a fun task to me even if a slightly daunting one.

- I wonder if blizzard realized that people would use pets as a way to transfer gold from one server to another.

- Do you think they will ever do something to stop it?

- I am surprised that I have never once read anything from anyone about buying and selling on different servers.

- None of the gold making sites that I read even mentioned it.

- I would have figured it would have been an obvious way to make money.

- It was the first thing I thought of when I read about it.

- And I am not even a gold goblin.

- How did this huge opportunity to make money completely slip past all of them?

- I can't believe I rambled on that much about pet battling.

- I am addicted, at least on the weekends.

- Next weekends goal is 30 25s and starting my quest to 75.

- 30 will be super easy as I only need a few more.

- That 75 number does seem imposing, but it won't be for long.

- Give me three more weekends of playing and I should be there.

- But being I do not pet battle exclusively every weekend that could turn into 6 weeks.

- Well, that is enough pet babbling.

- Have a great day and happy new years all.

My Favortie Types of Battle Pets + Bonus Tip for Rare Hunters

There are two ways I can classify my favorite battle pets.  Ones I like and ones I like to fight with.  As I had mentioned before while writing here each one of my characters has a pet that fits their personality.

My hunter has had his sporebat ever since it was found out that it can make rogues bleed from their anus, my priest has used her giant sewer rat since the day she caught it, my warrior and mojo have been best friends for many years and my druid fell in love with her onyxia whelpling the moment they met when WoW anniversary gifts were actually cool.

For me it always seemed like certain pets found their way to their rightful owner.  They just clicked.  Now that pets are more then just little companions that follow you around the choice of which ones to use are more than just cosmetic for me.  Even if the ones that follow me around has not changed.

My sprorebat and onyxia whelpling are 25 now but my sewer rat is only 18 and mojo is unused as of now.

So what makes a good team for me?

I like survival, something that has a heal.  My focus has changed a lot since I first started doing pet battle and some of the earliest ones I leveled ended up stuck around level 8 or so, never to be used again.  When I first started, just like everyone else, I was just trying everything.  It took a while for me to start to format what I like to believe is a team for me.

I have begun to like to use what I call a balanced team.  One pet that has some survival skill, as in a heal or shield of sorts, and two attack abilities.  One pet that has a minor utility and two attack abilities and last but not least, a tank.  The tank should have a heal, a shield and a way to whittle down the opponent.

Here are some examples of pets that fit the mold of what I have began to like in my group.  Every team will always have at least one of this type of pet and usually two.

Darkmoon Cub:

My cub took the lead on favorites early on thanks to getting the third slot ability of Devour at level 4.  The combination of Pounce which does fine damage and more if you strike first and Screech which helps make sure you always go first with the healing Devour gives me it has made my darkmoon cub a formidable opponent and being you rarely run into mechanical units in the world you are rarely put in the position of being badly damaged. Big damage, finishing move heal, and cute too.  How can you go wrong?

Snarly:

Snarly has fast become one of my favorite pets to battle with.  He is great as the secondary character when leveling low level characters but does have the huge weakness of being aquatic and if you end up with something flying you could be in trouble, but otherwise he can survive nearly anything thanks to his abilities.

I use Consume in the first slot.  It does a small amount of damage and heals Snarly for 100% of the damage done.  I use Surge for the second ability, as it always goes first.  Water Jet, the other ability in that slot might do more damage but going first has major advantages.  The third ability you might recognize from my Darkmoon cub having it also, Devour.  If you play it right, you will remain at full health, forever.

Emperor Crab:

Just like Snarly he has the weakness against flying being an aquatic but outside of that he is the perfect example of a tank.  He has a Shell Shield which reduces damage for 5 turns and a heal that is nothing to laugh at.  His only offensive ability is surge and like I mentioned before I like that one because it always goes first and going first is a huge advantage in pet battles.

I've had some epic battles with my Emperor Crab but then again, anything with him has a chance to be an epic battle as he is not exactly going to kill anyone quickly.  The shell ability is beyond fantastic against any swarm type of pet ability like locust, or rat stampede, or chicken eggs or anything of that type as none of them will ever hit you for anything when that shield is up.   Have to love that.

Those are the three styles of pets I like you use when out in the wild and leveling other pets.  They all can go without the need to ever heal at all as long as you do not run into anything they are weak against.  Even in some cases you can fight your way through those too.  Sometimes.

Other styles of pets I like to keep around are offensive pets that have abilities that compliment each other.  There are a few types like that.

Murkimus the Gladiator:

He is one of the type that has attacks from all ends type of attacks. Flurry does an extra attack if he strikes first, Counterstrike does an extra attack if he strikes last.  Pretty cool huh?  Heroic Leap, his third skill I like to use, I use more defensively and if I am going first it can be used to maximum effect.

If you are going first and the opponent does one of those two turn abilities like flying up in the air and then landing a big strike or burrowing in the ground and popping up for a big strike, after you see them do that you can use heroic leap, going first you will go in the air, they land their hit on nothing, and you avoided all that damage and if you happen to hit with it you hit for a crap ton of damage yourself, enough to one shot some enemies if you crit.  See, another advantage of going first.  And lets not forget, even if it is minimal, Murkimus is humanoid which means every hit gets him a small heal.  Not bad at all.

Cobra Hatchling:

This is another powerhouse pet that has abilities that compliment each other.  Poison Fang will poison an enemy and then Vicious Fang will do more damage to a poisoned opponent.  Used together means nice power.  Add in Hiss, to make you are are always going first, and you get that extra shot in that the faster beast usually does.  There are many types of pets that have this type of ability where one thing poisons/applies a bleed/whatever and the next does more damage if it has that thing on it.  When making a team it is sometimes nice to have a power player in it like this, that can keep stacking abilities for more effect.

If you are planning on going on a catching spree there are a few pets that can really help you and a few tips that you should follow.  Never put on DoTs, never throw down timed abilities like a bomb that explodes in three turns, and never use a power pet because once accidental critical and they are dead.

There are two tips I can give you when it comes to catching pets.  One is a pet itself and the other is, for lack of a better word, cleaver use of game mechanics.

Terrible Turnip:

While not exactly an overwhelming pet for attack, defense, or support he is the best pet in the game hands down when it comes to catching other pets.  Thanks to an ability called Weakening Blow which he can never bring an opponent below 1 with you will be assured you never accidentally kill that critter you want to catch.  Admit it, we have all done that before and wanted to kick ourselves afterwards.  So if you are out on the hunt for a rare pet, even more so one that is a much lower level, even a level 25 turnip couldn't kill it if it tried using Weakening Blow.  No more accidentally turning the pet you wanted to catch into street pizza.

Bonus Tip:

Now for the tip of the day for pet players.

Ever see a rare you really wanted and accidentally killed it, or went into it with the wrong group and are getting your butt handed to you and you know once you get wiped out your chance to catch it is gone.  All you can do is scream and curse that you were not prepared or made a mistake.  Nope, not true.

Here is what you do if something like that happens.  Hit the little x in the upper right hand corner of your game.  Do not log out, do not pick an ability, click it as soon as something goes wrong ASAP.  Now, log back in and guess what, the same exact group you were battling is back.  The rare is still there and even more importantly, still alive.  You can even change your team to a better team capable of taking it if you were getting wiped out.  The only problem is, if there is another pet hunter in the area they can grab it between the time you left and the time you log back in, but wouldn't it be better that someone else got it then you not getting it at all, just for the chance you might get it if you get back in time?  I think so.

When out rare hunting I leave a second wow open with name and password already typed in.  If something goes wrong I hit the x and log in on the other one instantly and am back in game battling only seconds later.  Perhaps you could do that as well, so you do not lose that rare you have been looking for forever.
