6.2 is Coming

You might notice that the background downloader is currently downloading 6.2 data.  Most likely it is art, data files, and the new raids, but it is usually a sign that they are getting near the end of the ptr testing.

I am surprised that it is coming this soon personally.  While we are all complaining about the lack of outdoor content or content we wish to do in general, this is way too soon.  At least from a raiding perspective and from the perspective that is it not adding any of the things we were complaining there was a lack of.

Blackrock foundry came out so close to highmaul and now the new raid will be coming out closer to BRF than anyone expected.   As I mentioned in a post the other week my guild is doing extremely poorly this expansion raiding wise.  The worst we have ever done in as long as I can remember.  And yet as poorly as we are doing we are still placed near the top 20% of active raiding guilds.  As a raiding guild in the top 5th of raiding guilds, I would like to think that if I believe it is too soon for another raid then most likely a great many others do as well.  But I can not speak for them.

My biggest problem with 6.2 coming out this soon, outside of the new raid concerns when the vast majority of the raiding player base has not even done the previous two raids yet, is the fact it does absolutely nothing to address the problems we have had all expansion.

There will still be no flying, there will still be no daily hubs, there will still be no repeatable rare mobs to kill in the world worth killing, there will still be very little content to do out in the world, there will still be no choices, options, you know, they things that people like having.  As some say, there will be even be less, as I saw some people complain.

If 6.2 was coming jam packed with content, varied degrees of content and not just more of the same, then it would be a welcome addition in my opinion.  But being it will just be more of the same I say they should hold it back until they can add more to it.

One thing I read about was rare spawn battle pets out in the world being added.  I HATE, yes in all capital letters, HATE this idea.

Having them spawn in only one place in the world and only one at a time means camping out and most likely fighting a dozen other pet collectors for it and then if you get unlucky enough to never snag the pet you wanted, when the next expansion comes out and blizzard once again goes into full on retard mode and makes draenor a cross realm zone you might be now facing hundreds of people trying to get them.  No blizzard, just no.

Camping for hundreds of hours and then hoping you can click on it faster than a hundred other people is not fun.  Never has been, never will be.  No blizzard, just no.  And what makes it even more annoying is that there is no flying.  So that basically means you can not try all spawn points.  You are now forced to set your character at one spawn point and sit there... forever. Not completely horrible for someone like me with tons of level 100s because I will park them in the world in just log in to see if they are there, but dreadful for anyone else.  And lets get real, even if I have a small advantage with so many 100s, it is still dreadful for me too.  It is lazy design for adding content by making people sit out in the world forever waiting for something.  That is not content, that is torture.

When people asked for outdoor content they did not mean give them something where they will just sit there forever in one place waiting.  That is not content worth playing blizzard, that is content worth quitting over.

I have come to the conclusion that for something new to be added to the game it needs to meet at least 3 of 4 criteria.  It needs to be 1) a waste of time, 2) annoying, 3) frustrating, and 4) purely luck based.  If you look at almost everything this expansion it seems to fit at least three of the four requirements.

I say hold 6.2 back.  Hold it back until you can add an actual mix of content into it, not just more of the same.  I don't want more of the same.  Nearly 3 million players already said that with their wallets.  Does blizzard actually want to see how many more subscriptions it can lose?

We want choices in our content blizzard, not more of the same.  Or, at least I do.

  1. WoW = World of Waitcraft now. Damn near everything we want to do requires us to queue up and wait. Not surprising (to me) the rare pets are setup this way. Seems to be the Blizzard MO now. :-P

    1. I don't have spirit beasts on most of my hunters because I refuse to sit in one spot and wait for stuff to spawn for days and weeks on end. Not my style of play. Oh well, can't be happy with everything I guess. But really dislike this design.

  2. I needed 6.2 out now. I think you are conflating your guilds raiding challenges with others. We have had no problem clearing heroic the fights were tough but fun We are like the 67th guild on or server to beat black hand and we've had him down for weeks but now people are waning interest we haven't made a ton of progress into mythic mostly due to us not having a big enough bench which is my fault as I got into a comfortable spot and stopped recruiting,

only two of the new mini pets are rares that you might camp for too I think that's an acceptable amount since there seems to be so many others to collect too.

    1. Should not need to camp any pets like spirit beasts. It is not fun design to sit and wait for something to spawn, at least it is not fun for me.

I am only judging raiding by wow progress. If we are having such a dreadfully hard time and we are still in the top 5th when we are usually around the 50% mark, it means most guilds are having a hard time. That is just basic math. We are usually in the 50th percentile and now in the 20th doing the worst we have ever done. Means most guilds are doing even worse.

    2. I disagree a few camps like the mini valk are fine as long as its not over done and adding two doesn't make it over done.

how are you computing where you are at via wow progress I mean I can see our rank in world and USA how are you figuring you are in top 20 or 50%?

    3. I hear horror stories about the valk all the time now. Seems like they mega merged CRZ even more. I am glad I got it early, that and minfernal which was another harder to find one.

I don't like that sit and wait play style. Not sure how anyone would, but we each have our own way to enjoy things. Waiting for something to happen is just not mine, never will be, sorry.

If they want to make it rare, tie to to something, like if you complete 100 pet battles in "zone name" then it pops up in the area where you won the 100th. If you lose, you will need to respawn it by finishing 100 battles again.

That is how you make rare spawns, work for it, not wait for it.

      Okay, I lied. :P

It is top 23% now, not 20 percent, been a couple of weeks since I looked.

How I figured that is look at wow progress, see what boss we have done, see it says 23% have downed it. Tada, that puts us with that 23%.

While I take numbers like that with a grain of salt as you know they are not completely accurate, I am comparing how we rank there to how we ranked there in the past. So based on that, it is about as accurate as I could get.

If you wanted more accurate than that, sorry, I can not provide it, but that is what I am using as me judging where we stand with others.

Usually whichever boss is around the 50% of guilds mark is the boss we are working on or just downed. So time wise, we are progressing the slowest we have ever progressed and are further ahead of the other guild than we have ever been.

So just because you might have downed it enough, the vast majority of guilds haven't. Not even close if my guild is ranked that high percentage wise. My guild might be doing dreadful compared to what we normally do,but look around, most seem to be doing a hell of a lot worse. Which is a sad state for raiding if you ask me.

They should not even consider releasing 6.2 until 50% of raid groups have downed the last boss of a raid on normal (meaning heroic, because to me that is normal). Being all 6.2 is really offering is another raid, why release it when the majority of guilds have not even finished the previous one?

    4. I think people stop at normal, as it's the first guild raiding level. Last expansion there was flex, but it was later on so raiding guilds were already doing normal as their progress. And heroic now seems slightly harder than normal back then.

    6. We did not even finish normal. We moved to heroic as soon as a few people got some tier from normal. Would love to go back and kill BH on normal before heroic, just for practice, but most are against it because it drops nothing worthwhile for them.

You might be right as to why we are seeing less raid at the heroic level, but in my mind heroic level is normal. So even if we are raiding heroic I still call it normal.

  3. My guild also wants 6.2 to drop ASAP. We've killed Heroic Black Hand a few times, but there is little interest in doing so again. (It has seemed harder to generate enthusiasm for any sort of repetitive activity in this expansion.) We have had 20 exactly once to attempt mythic content so far. It is basically not possible for us given our social set-up. Thus, we need something new to do in a raid environment.

I am a PvE pet battler and enjoy collecting. I don't mind the two rares mentioned as long as there is no -- and I mean zero -- wait on respawn. If each pet is always up at some location and respawns instantly when captured or killed someplace else, then I have no issues with it. If there is a delay in respawn, then it becomes an unreasonable camp in my mind.

And yes, Blizzard should end CRZ. It sucks. I've yet to meet anyone who likes it.

    1. No mythic for the vast majority of guilds has really hurt the game a lot I think. While I do agree the number 20 is nice and works for the world first race, I do not believe it works for most people over all.

If the pet is instant, which I hope it is, then it will be easy. Get some friends, each camp a point, cycle through until you get all of them. But since when does blizzard ever do things that make sense. ;)

CRZ is the devil in gaming. There is nothing good about it.

    2. CRZ sucks. Wouldn't it be cool if we could teleport those sorry suckers back to their home realm. Imagine if we could right click their character and select from a menu, teleport ya ass back home and poof bye-bye. No more competition.

    3. Better yet, let them be. Give me the option to be the one to move. Let me go back where I belong and not be stuck with them.

  4. Now, while the downloader is pulling 6.2, we haven't seen an end to the Arena season yet have we? That gives at least 2 weeks as they wrap up.. In fact, their "this month" post lists several arena events outside of the pvp arenas. I'd suspect that these eSports have asked Blizz to freeze the current version until their tourney's wrap up. That being sad, it still looks like an end-of-June deployment.

    1. That is very true and a good observation, so there might still be some time before it comes out.

    2. I figure one month from now.

    3. My guess is June 23rd. Which just so happens to be one moth from now give or take, so I agree.

Reasoning is that the FF 14 expansion comes out on that day and blizzard loves to release to combat other games.

  5. Elka is right, they haven't said arena season ending yet, so maybe there is a little longer than I thought.

    2. Yeah, forgot about the arena season as I have not participated it. That will be the true indicator. As soon as it is announced to end we will know out released date for 6.2 even without them saying it.

  6. Wow is turning into Loserquest, eerrr Everquest. Nightmares of camping Grimfearher or Quillamane in south karana or that dammed giant turtle or sand giant for his boots. If they spawn you had to outdamage 10-20 other campers so they were 24/7 camps. Now that crap is entering wow?

    1. They are not going that far, no, and I am glad for that. But moving back to the rare spawn thing. Hopefully nothing like time lost proto drake rare. Multiple characters, many camping for all of wrath and much time after that and I have never even seen its dead body until recently. I never ever want to see that crap in this game again. It has no place.

Honestly that is the first thing I thought of. If I log in to check them I'll want to go do my missions. Guess that means I will need to have leo as a wing man on all my characters if I want to camp.

  9. Anon, Grumpy's former Guild Leader:

A few months ago, I predicted that upon reaching max level and finding no flying was going to be allowed in Draenor, that eventually a storm was going to hit Blizzard. Well, Friday night, that storm rolled in on the U.S. forums with spillover to the EU forums.

I will be frank as possible on this, I did not really believe in my heart of hearts, that Blizzard was so far gone to the dark side of solely being in business to make money as to forget who makes the games successful, i.e. the people who spend money to buy them. How Blizzard reacts to the storm on no flying in 6.2 and none going forward (as currently conceived) into future expansions will test this. This is going to be a Chinese curse of "interesting times" for Blizzard.

    1. They have completely lost all faith I might have had left in them and shown they have absolutely no clue the customer base that plays the game.

      Dark times indeed.
